The Process
The process of strategic design closely parallels the approach I take in illustration design. While traditional design thinking follows the steps of empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test, my process adapts slightly—empathize, define, ideate, test, reflect—continuing in a cycle until the client’s vision is fully realized.
But my role as an artist and illustrator doesn’t stop there. My job is not just to execute a concept but to elevate it, translating ideas into visuals that exceed what the client initially imagined. Achieving this requires more than just understanding their requests; it demands curiosity, intuition, and the ability to ask both precise and open-ended questions that uncover the deeper essence of their vision.
By immersing myself in their perspective and refining ideas through collaboration, I ensure that the final result is not just a reflection of their dream—but a realization of who they are as not just a brand, but as a human.

From first concept to final product, I work closely with the client to ensure their vision is met. This particular project started with a very roughly drawn concept (left) from the client’s verbal exploration of how it might look to visually represent the growth of a child’s mind based on what ideas and experiences they’re exposed to. To viscerally show the “seeds” of their surroundings and life as growing into physical thriving plants, but it was important to show that this message was universal, not limited to one culture or way of life. The particular plant life and the angle of the child evolved after the client could see the first concept and ultimately ended with seeds falling into the bed of foliage that represents the child’s mind, with the shadows and sculptural details following a wide range of cultural representations that would speak to the full audience of the magazine.
